Potential vs Kinetic Energy

Ever since Addie was born I knew there was something just pent up inside her. Every once in a while I would get a glimmer of what I thought I knew was happening, such as a roll here and a jump there. Little did I know that she was increasing her stores of 'potential energy' *ominous music playing*. Don't fall asleep right yet...
Do you remember in 7th or 8th grade when the science teacher attempted to explain potential and kinetic energy? Most teachers I knew used the example of a ball sitting at the top of the hill and the ball rolling down the hill to explain these laws in 'Layman's Terms' (thank heavens). Well the ball sits at the top of the hill with all this 'potential' energy, but this energy cannot be tapped unless an outside force, such as gravity or a push, allows the object to exert that energy...and to wrap it up kinetic energy is just energy in motion.
OK I know super boring, so back to my story. Addie was my little ball at the top of the hill. As a Mommy we all practice standing and tummy time, and all sorts of physical activities (The 'push'), whether it's because the doctor told you it was necessary, or if you just needed to sit them down because they had been crying for the past hour and a half...We were training a regular ol' Rocky Balboa. Then it happened, the ball started rolling. First downward facing dog, and we thought that was super cute 'Aw, Addie's gonna be a yoga instructor!'. She went to her knees...she shuffled her knees forward...then a hand twitched ahead of the other....and that was it. She was moving. Kinetic energy. Ever since then she hasn't stopped. Kinetic energy is much much more involved. Needless to say we've been a very busy family.

Don't mind the mess, we just did laundry and used it to block Addie's way into the kitchen. And we put pillows between her and the outlets until we get caps for them. Saftey first.

My adorable little bundle of joy!

  1. HAILEY!! I am so glad I found your blog! Addison is adorable...much like her wonderful mother. And you are extremely talented (always have been) with all of your clothes and other crafts. You might need to teach me a thing or two.

Anyways...I'm glad you're doing well. I sure love ya!
